John Barger is Managing Director of NorthernCross Partners.

He began his career as a lawyer, then moving to executive roles at Citicorp Investment Bank and Bankers Trust in New York and London. In 1996 he left Wall Street to found XL/Latin American Reinsurance Company, Ltd. (today AXA/Latin America) in Bermuda and Switzerland. After successfully building the firm, he sold his interest to XL/AXA and shortly thereafter founded NorthernCross Partners.  In his role as Managing Director at NorthernCross, John is an investor and  director on a number of privately held company boards. He is also the managing director and general partner in a private equity fund.

From 2008-2016 John served as a director of the Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association Board of Investments (LACERA), the largest county pension fund in the United States, overseeing approximately $60 billion in portfolio assets. He served as investment board chair on three occasions, in 2011, 2014 and 2015.  Since 2019, he has served as a  Governor of the United States Postal Service, a Presidential appointment requiring confirmation by the United States Senate.

Born in Los Angeles, California, John is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University (History/Philosophy, Cum Laude), the University of California, Hastings College of the Law (JD), and the London School of Economics (MSc. Econ: Finance & Accounting). He and his wife have two adult children and live in suburban Los Angeles. He is an Eagle Scout

Robert James (“R.J.”) Winans is Chief of Staff for NorthernCross Partners.

He advises and assists in private equity and direct investments, among many other responsibilities. R.J. is located in the Los Angeles office.

Prior to working at NorthernCross Partners, R.J. received an MTS at Duke University in 2017. He wrote his thesis on Corporate Social Responsibility. R.J. graduated from Biola University with a dual-major of Public Relations and Biblical & Theological Studies.

R.J.’s current interests include corporate social responsibility, theological ethics, SRI and ESG investing, and economics.

Andrew Workman is an associate for NorthernCross Partners in the Los Angeles office.
He assists the Chief of Staff and Managing Director on portfolio research and political consulting.

Andrew received a bachelors degree in English with a minor in History from Duke University. His interests include American History, politics, problem solving, and the arts. 

Gerry Flintoft possesses 20+ years of experience as an alternative investments and private equity portfolio manager and consultant. Previously a Director of Alternative Investments with PineBridge Investments, a $72 billion multi-asset manager, he advised clients on portfolio design and construction that included developed and emerging market private equity, private credit and hedge fund seeding. Prior to PineBridge, Mr. Flintoft served as an Investment Officer at Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association ("LACERA"), a leading $50 billion US public pension fund, where he managed an $8 billion private equity portfolio, successfully negotiated separately managed accounts and assisted investment colleagues with hedge fund and real estate portfolios. Before joining LACERA, Mr. Flintoft was the Director of Corporate Real Estate for a publicly listed multinational architecture and engineering firm and the founder of a real estate consulting firm. Additionally, Mr. Flintoft served on the Institutional Limited Partners Association ("ILPA") Board of Directors for six years in various leadership capacities, collectively representing $1+ trillion of PE capital.

Gerry earned an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School and a B.A. in Economics from UCLA. He is also a CAIA Charter Holder and holds FINRA licenses Series 7 and Series 66 (63 & 65).
